Tactile and Visual Signage (accessibility)

Tactile and visual signage for the blind and partially sighted comes in various forms.

Tactile signage helps the partially sighted to move around through textures which reinforce visual contrasts, while printing information in braille provides access to texts and numbers for the blind.

Visual signage needs to capture attention and communicate a message consistent with the location. The size of characters and pictograms depends on reading distance and is subject to standards. Colours are also an important factor because there needs to be enough contrast to make the information easy to read.

Multisensory maps help people find their way around by providing a visual and tactile representation of a building. Each component follows set standards and is associated with a specific shape or pictogram.
