The teams at Oxy Signalétique made and installed the new sign for Mucem, the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations, on the Tour du Roi René in Fort Saint Jean. This large-scale creation now hangs over Marseille Vieux Port.
The technical work involved laser cutting 1.30 m high letters in 8 mm steel. The entire sign was given a thermal coating and anti-corrosion and UV-resistant treatment to optimise the end result and ensure that it stands the test of time, while taking into account environmental and site factors.
There were also considerable difficulties for installation. Significant site constraints had to be taken into account, such as height, the nature of the wall, the tower’s classification as a protected historical monument and all the associated regulations.
The new Mucem sign now fits into the panorama in the best possible way, standing proudly yet discreetly at the entrance to Marseille Vieux Port.
